Multiple Program Integration School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2008
Following in Mr. Rohe’s legacy, the simplified form of the MPI scheme offers clean lines and hidden details to counter the highly diversified program requirements; within the space one can engage in over 25 different activities (from aerobic training to water testing facilities).
By studying the relationships and highlighting opportunities to overlap space requirements, one can create a flexible framework to accommodate even more options, discover exciting new relationships between seemingly incongruent programs, and completely optimize a space without feeling too constrained.
And by fully occupying the space over Lakeshore Drive, by literally building over it, a pedestrian can easily cross over the often treacherously accessible highway more easily to access the beautiful vista that the waterfront provides along Lake Michigan.
