This project focuses on directionality dictated by the program, originating from the processional scope of Baroque churches, with a central focus under the dome. Through negotiating Hedjuk’s 9 square with the Baroque fragment, the proposal ignores direct representation equally - it does not communicate 9 squares planimetrically or elevationally, nor does it replicate a Baroque fragment, such as a pilaster or cornice, outright. The 9 square is blurred by shifting, pinching, absorbing forms subtly, thereby allowing light infiltration through a discrete set of light “moves” generated from the program. In borrowing the intentionality imposed by program, evident in the churches studied, light is used as a circulatory driver organizing program and delivering hierarchy.
